SPRING 2010 SHOWCASE BROCHURE ( CLICK HERE )

Spring 2010 Individual Showcase, April 11th
Loyola University

Why individual showcases rather than team events

So many times athletes don’t get the looks at team events that they deserve. Time on the court, player rotations, team philosophy and coaches decisions can limit playing time and the opportunity to display individual skills.

At the Individual showcase event, the player gets 2 to 3 hours on the court directly in front of college coaches . It gives the college coach a first hand view of the player that they can evaluate independently. What better way to get direct feedback from a college coach as to whether the athlete will be a fit for their program.

Structure of the Showcase

After registration we have the warm up period. Each player is assigned to a team. After introduction to their game coach for the day they are run through warm up drills that college coaches will observe. It gives them an opportunity to watch the players as they move through fundamentals. Can they dribble with both hands? Can they finish layups with both hands. How is their form on the foul shot? Just to name a few.

Our showcases always include a recruiting seminar for the parents and athletes prior to game play. We touch on subjects relevant to the athlete positioning themselves to find the best opportunity to play in college and get the best education possible.

Once done the players compete for the next few hours. There are referees and score is kept  but no scorers book and the games move rapidly. This is done to focus on the competitive play rather than the outcome.

Each game coach is instructed that the ball must be shared and players must be moved to different positions to showcase their talents. For instance, many times in high school or on  AAU teams the taller girls may play the 4 or 5. Truth is at the collegiate level the same player may not have the size to play that position and will need to move to the 2 or 3. This becomes the opportunity to show their ability at those positions.

T
he college coaches are courtside and we isolate them so they can focus on the task at hand. Each Division has rules regarding player and coach contact during our events. So we ask all participating players to avoid the coaches unless they make contact. When the event is over, where NCAA guidelines allow,  some coaches will make themselves available for give and take with the parents and athletes.

Showcase Details

On April 11th from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Loyola University in Baltimore we will have our D2/D3/NAIA/JUCO showcase. This is not a D1 live period so no coaches at that level will be in attendance. On the other hand there are great opportunities for the large majority of players to play at the D2/D3/NAIA/JUCO level and what better way to gain exposure.
